Just as the world was created in 7 days, it started the first day. Just as the end of a million mile journey it starts with the first step. Just as Bill Gates created the world greatest software it started with the first chip.Just as infinity has no end, it starts with the number 1. Jamoja.com had its first Semi-Camp of its never-ending goal for development through sports. The camp was held August 21, 2006 on the field at Derbyshire Park in Daytona Beach, Florida.
A 20 minute football scrimmage concluded a two and a half hour Football Semi-Camp that attracted over 30 participants between the ages of 3 to 13. The camp attracted members of the Daytona Beach Thunder, Daytona Beach YMCA the City of Daytona Beach Leisure Services and 15 student athletes from the Daytona Beach colleges and universities who contributed as volunteer counselors. Camp coordinator Anis Taylor said he thought it was a great time in a beautiful setting. "The kids really enjoyed themselves and learned valuable lessons.
The camp started with an introduction of Jamoja.com and the Jamoja Semi-Camps. The campers started with stretching and warm-ups. The kids were then broken down into age groups and went to the skill positioned station of their choice, while the new Daytona Beach Thunder head coach Leon Bright provided his expertise. Positions ranged from quarterbacks to wide receivers and defensive positions.
The featured speaker was Percy Williamson, the Director of Leisure Services. He provided the kids with a fantastic speech on life and development of the youths through sports. The children returned to playing football where they participated in a scrimmage which allowed all the kids to utilize the skills that they learned from their stations.
As the camp ended, campers were handed gift bags and shirt. One camper parent stated about her son, "He had an amazing time. I made it here to watch all the final games and Zachary really enjoyed himself. Thank you so much Jamoja for the amazing experience that he had. The hospitality was great and the way we were treated was just wonderful. We are eager to come back next year."
Jamoja.com would like to thank all of the counselors, The City of Daytona Beach Leisure Services, the Daytona Beach YMCA and the Daytona Beach Thunders for all of their support.
