It seems like every time Jamoja shoots, Jamoja scores. This week was a slam-dunk for Jamoja. Jamoja held it’s first youth Basketball Semi-Camp, and it was nothing but net.
The Semi-Camps were held at two sites at the same time for four days straight. The Dickerson Center, and Cypress Street Park were home for the four-day event. The girls Semi-Camp were held on Monday and Wednesday for girls between 6 – 16 years old. The boys Semi-Camp were held on Tuesday and Thursday for boys between 5 – 16 years old. There was a great buzz surrounding the four-day long event. If anyone has ever been to a Jamoja Semi-Camp you can understand why.
What you get is quality instruction from quality counselors, and quality seminars from quality people. The best part of Jamoja Semi-Camps is that every participant leaves with a better perspective of life. “Its so good to see an organization who cares so much for the people. Its great to see a lot of these kids off the streets and being exposed to positive things from people who cares.” said Sheila Brown a parent who brought both of her children to the Semi-Camp. Among the counselors were members of the Bethune-Cookman College men and women Basketball team. Among the featured speakers were Cynthia Slater President of the NAACP Daytona Beach, and Gravelle Graig assistant coach of Bethune-Cookman College.
“This was a big week for us at Jamoja, not only did we have a week long Basketball Semi-Camp, the website was launched on Monday to compliment the event,” said Anis Taylor, CEO of Jamoja. “ I could not have pictured a better start for Jamoja. We have completed four Semi-Camps and it seems like each one gets better.” The Basketball Semi-Camps was made possible by the help and support of The City of Daytona Beach Leisure Services, Bethune-Cookman College men’s and women’s Basketball Team, American Marketing Association Bethune-Cookman College chapter and all the coaches, counselors and volunteers.
